Twelve men mean age, 65 8 years ; with chronic AF of at least 1 year's duration participated in the study. Clinical characteristics of the subjects are listed in Table 1. Betaxolol contraindication
In patients with angle-closure glaucoma, the immediate treatment objective is to reopen the angle by constriction of the pupil with a miotic agent. Betaxolol HCl has no effect on the pupil; therefore, ophthalmic betaxolol should be used with a miotic to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in angle-closure glaucoma.
Sir, Icodextrin is a large molecular weight glucose polymer fraction derived from hydrolysed corn starch which may be used in peritoneal dialysis patients as the osmotic agent [1]. The osmotic effectiveness of isosmolar icodextrin solution is well established [24]. Also, the use of icodextrin dialysis is generally safe and well-tolerated. Rare cases of allergic reactions to icodextrin dialysis, all characterized by the occurrence of rash, have been reported [46 ]. We now report a different form of adverse reaction to icodextrin, which was characterized by the lack of dermatological features and which recurred when the patient was rechallenged with icodextrin dialysis. Case. A 59-year-old man was transferred from haemodialysis HD ; to peritoneal dialysis because of HD vascular access failure. The patient was started on regular HD treatment in January 1989. The cause of end-stage renal disease was chronic pyelonephritis secondary to renal stone disease. In April 1989, the patient underwent right nephrectomy for staghorn calculi. Since then, his blood pressure fell to average values of 8070 50 mmHg. After hearing from several residents concerned about water pressure to their homes, the City of St. Pete Beach asked Pinellas County Utilities to test the water service lines for adequate pressure. Pinellas County conducted tests on the water lines servicing homes in the area of 55th Avenue and 59th Avenue. The tests found that hydrants in this neighborhood have more than adequate water volume and pressure. The American Water Works established a minimum pressure requirement of 20 PSI for water pressure entering homes. The average PSI for this neighborhood ranged from 50.7 PSI-51.6 PSI with the low and high readings ranging from 27.7 PSI to 69.8 PSI, respectively.
