Results PK The serum fentanyl concentrations were twice as high in children compared to those in adults at similar doses. This could be explained by a lower clearance Cl ; in children, 2815 L h than that observed in adults, 4819 L h. However, body weight adjusted Cl was 20% higher in children, 0.90.5 L h, than that observed in adults, 0.80.3 L h. BSA adjusted Cl was 2613 L h m2 children, and 197 L h m2 adults. Study site affected the fentanyl concentrations but there were no other significant relationship between Cl and any other co-variate in the study population. The study design and the data obtained did not allow a calculation of the volume of distribution. PK-PD No significant relationships between the incidence of adverse events, e.g. fever, vomiting, nausea, anemia, abdominal pain, and fentanyl serum concentrations could be identified.
